Steps to Take in a Dental Emergency
If Your Tooth Falls Out
Carefully rinse the tooth in water. Do not scrub the surface. You can attempt to place the tooth back in the socket if you can avoid touching any exposed roots. If not, keep the tooth moist by putting it in milk or in your mouth next to your cheek.
If You Crack or Chip Your Tooth
Rinse your mouth out with warm water and bite down gently on sterile gauze if you notice any bleeding. Apply an ice pack to reduce swelling and take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication to help with any pain.
If You Experience Severe Pain
Toothaches that are severe enough to prevent you from eating, speaking, or sleeping require emergency dental care and should be examined by an emergency dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can take anti-inflammatory medication or apply a cold compress to the area.
While punctures, cuts, and other injuries to the mouth are usually considered dental emergencies, some facial injuries may require attention from an E.R. doctor. If you have sustained trauma to the jawbone or need stitches, please go directly to the hospital.
"The office staff is terrific - professional, warm, and welcoming." More 5-Star Reviews From Queens Patients
Everyone is pleasant and I’m welcomed like a friend. Small, comfortable waiting area, but I rarely use it because the hygienist is always on time. The dentists are easy to talk to and are gentle and unrushed, as is the hygienist. I always expect to hate going to the dentist, but afterword I feel happy I went to see them. Aside from minor discomfort during the cleaning, my visits are a mild experience.View on Google

Comfort Options for Dental Anxiety
Dental emergencies can be painful and stressful, and those issues may be compounded when dental anxiety is thrown into the mix. To help you relax during treatment, we offer sedation with nitrous oxide in addition to local anesthesia to numb pain. Sometimes called "laughing gas," nitrous oxide works almost instantly to help you feel more calm in the dentist chair. The gas wears off within minutes, so you can still drive home after the procedure.
Emergency Dental Care Services
Our Flushing, NY, dentists can use a variety of techniques to treat and repair emergency dental problems.
A severe tooth infection may require a root canal to remove bacteria and decay from the inner chamber. During root canal therapy, your emergency dentist will drill a small hole in the top of the tooth and extract the infected inner pulp. After sterilizing the area, we will fill the hole with an inert rubber-like substance and cover the tooth with a protective restoration.
Less extensive tooth decay that results in a cavity can be treated with a tooth-colored filling. In this procedure, your emergency dentist will clean the tooth and carefully remove the decayed tissue. Then we will fill the cavity with a natural-looking bonding material expertly shade-matched to your enamel.
Crowns are a versatile solution for many kinds of emergency dental conditions like structural damage, decay, and infection. After treating the root source of the problem, we will take precise impressions of your teeth and design your custom crown. The restoration will be hand-crafted by technicians at our partner dental lab out of durable and natural-looking materials, like porcelain or zirconia. When the crown is ready, you will return to our office in Flushing and have it bonded over your tooth for long-lasting protection.
While our emergency dentists will always attempt to save your natural tooth first, in some cases extraction is necessary. When tooth decay or trauma is severe, extraction may be the only option to restore your oral health. If you require an extraction, do not worry. Our dentists can provide local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Once you recover, we can help you replace the tooth with a traditional or implant-supported dental restoration.
If we are unable to save a tooth, we offer top-of-the-line restorations with dental implants. Implant-supported restorations replace both the visible crown and the underlying tooth root, filling the gap in your smile and protecting you from bone loss. We can discuss dental implant treatment during your emergency visit and start your treatment path as soon as possible.
